PONTOON SAFETY TIPS FOR ENTIRE FAMILY

Pontoon boats are a lot more fun than any other boat. Pontoons are a great way to have a social gathering with friends. Some models can also be used as a platform for fishing.

Pontoons pose some dangers to everyone onboard, just like any other boat. It’s easy for people to forget the most important safety precautions when having so much fun on pontoons. This guide will give you our top tips for staying safe while out on the water. We are available to answer any questions you may have or help you find the best pontoon boats. Visit The Ski Shack in Springfield, Branson or Shell Knob, Missouri.

Tips When Renting Pontoon Boats

Local Restrictions

Remember that each state has its own regulations regarding boating. Before you go out, make sure to familiarize yourself with all applicable regulations. Most areas consider drinking and boating a crime, similar to driving and drinking. So leave the alcohol at home. You will need a permit to boat across state lines.

Safety Equipment

You should always bring the proper safety equipment for your next trip. A life jacket is the most important piece safety equipment you should have on your pontoon boat. A well-fitting, waterproof life jacket should be worn by everyone onboard any time the pontoon boat rentals are in motion. Consider getting a life jacket for your dog if you are planning to bring your dog.

A fire extinguisher is another important piece of safety equipment that you should have. You will need to have a way to prevent your vessel from burning, regardless of whether you are dealing with an engine fire or an accident. Anchors can also be useful as they keep you from being pulled out too far in the event of an engine failure. Remember that your boat must have a horn that is audible from at least half a mile away in an emergency.

Standard emergency supplies are also a good idea. An emergency kit should include emergency supplies such as signal flares and space blankets, first aid supplies, food and water, as well as emergency food and water.

Check the Weather

When you are boating, it is important to keep an eye on the weather and make sure you check the forecast before departing. If inclement weather is forecast, it’s best not to make the trip. Even a severe windstorm could make it dangerous. North Myrtle Beach boat rentals are not well-suited to handling large waves. Even with large bodies of water, weather can change quickly. Do not attempt to brave the storm. It is always safer to stay safe and return to work if the weather improves.

Keep the party going

Party hosts love pontoon boats. Safety is more important on the water than on land. All passengers should wear their life jackets. Everyone should avoid alcohol and drugs.

Pontoons can be great for having fun and parties on the water. But, it is important to remember safety. This guide was compiled to help you enjoy your trip.

JET SKI RENTALS SAFETY TIPS: WHAT TO DO WHEN IT FLIPS OVER

One of the best ways to enjoy your summer is to ride a jet ski. Although they are easy to handle most of the time, accidents can still happen and that includes flipping the jet ski rental over. Once this happens you have to know what you need to do to avoid causing damage to the water craft and its engine.

Tips When Your Jet Ski Rentals Flips

You will find a sticker at the back of jet skis that tells you how you can right it. Be sure to read and understand the directions and follow them to the T. If you fail to do so, you might force the water into the crank case and you won’t be able to restart the jet ski. If the water gets into the crack case it could also cause damage to the engine. In case you have flipped the jet ski rentals North Myrtle Beach SC and then the engine continues to run, you should turn off the engine to lessen the possibility for water to be sucked in via the air intake. For most models of jet skis, you need to flip them over. Be sure to do it in a counter clockwise direction or in the direction that lets the exhaust is the last one that hits the water

In case the water is in the crank case, be sure to get your jet ski rental back to the shore. The next thing you should do is to get rid of the plugs. With the wires grounded and the plugs out, you need to crank the engine. You can avoid igniting fumes by grounding the wires. In most instances, jet skis will have a ground lug for the plug wires. You should dry and clean the plugs. Then add a tiny amount of fuel on its cylinder holes before you insert the plugs back again.

At this point, you are all set to crank it. In case your water craft starts but then stalls, you should dry and clean the plugs once again. There are instances when starting fluid cleans the plugs faster. You could keep adding starting fluid to the plugs and then keep on starting the jet ski’s engine until finally starts. When the engine successfully starts, allow it to run for half a minute and then put it back on the water. Allow it to run for a while and after five minutes, everything should be ok when jet skiing.

Allowing your jet ski to sit with water in its crank case for any period of time will destroy its engine. More damage will take place the longer it sits with the water in the crank case. It will not take that very long for the jet ski engine to seize up, for the crank bearings and the crank to rust and for the rings to take up the cylinder walls.

Call Action Water Sportz if you are thinking of getting a jet ski rental during your Myrtle Beach vacation.

HOW TO STAY WARM WHEN IT’S COLD ON THE WATER

Many boaters, both recreational and professional, believe that winter at sea is synonymous with bad weather. However, this is false. The worst storms that have caused the most damage to Mediterranean boating activities in recent years were in the late spring, summer and early autumn. You won’t believe this, especially in August. Winter boating is affected by the cold. This makes it more difficult to maneuver and creates anxiety when you’re on boat rentals.

A farsighted skipper should organize his crew to fight the cold and moist from October through February. Although it may seem obvious that dressing appropriately is important, our experience has shown that many people don’t know how to dress properly and stress others by complaining. Here are some tips to help you.

It is important to not only be warm and covered, but also to remain dry at sea. Non-rational dressings can cause moisture to condense quickly and leave the skin completely wet, even without any rain or water.

Boat Rental Tips: The best winter boat clothes to keep warm and dry

Flannel shirts and wool sweaters are preferred to goretex clothing, any non-breathable garment. Flannel shirts provide comfort right away and serve a thermal barrier function thanks to their dense weave.

A heavy flannel shirt is a better option than a light sweater with a high neck.

If you take a stroll in a port where fishing boats return, you’ll notice this is the winter uniform that all crew members wear. Fisherman have been testing the optimal transpiration of this clothing without ever having to consult any yachting magazines or authoritative sailing manuals. Wool provides warmth and keeps the skin warm, while flannel absorbs heat quickly, so it is ideal for keeping the body warm.

Fleece sweatshirts and suits were only recently introduced to the market. They are extremely efficient, even on the coldest winter days. These products can increase wool’s effect by up to 20 times. However, they do not require any special precautions. Winter boating requires that you always wear a jacket over your fleece. This will prevent air from entering the fabric and protects it from being damaged.

It is important to avoid condensation and stay dry when winter boating. Even if you wear a traditional plastic sailing jacket, fleece greatly reduces the risk. In winter, however, a Goretex garment is the best choice, even though they have a shorter lifespan than traditional sailing jackets.

Although I am not an expert in textiles, I believe in those with deeper knowledge. I was told that Goretex is extremely breathable and should never be folded because any fold could lead to water infiltration. Sailing jackets can lose their essence if they are used for a long time. As messy as I am, my goretex sailing jacket has lasted more than ten decades. It is still in great condition. Let’s just hope it lasts longer than that and I don’t need to get a new one.

Don’t forget to protect your neck with a wool cap or a ski mask. As well as protecting your neck from moisture, a spare wool scarf can be a great option.

There are two options for your hands when you’re on pontoon boat rentals: If you must work and need to keep your fingers senile, prepare to go. If you prefer to be on the helm or on guard, mittens may be the best option.

Your feet are the last thing you should be thinking about. Boat gloves today are boat boots. These boat boots, which unfortunately require a mortgage, are made from water-repellent, breathable, and anti-skid leather. Common rubber boats are great against water, but not as effective against cold. A pair of moon boots is a great choice, especially for those who have to stand still for long periods. These boots will keep your feet dry and warm, while also providing excellent grip.

It is clear. There are no application categories anymore and there is no difference between boat and ski clothing. It is the same goal: to be more comfortable, dry, and less warm. If your boat is still in water, and you don’t have any other obligations next weekend, regardless of whether winter has arrived in your region, why not take a little trip in a boat rental or jet ski rentals?

HOW TO DRIVE A PONTOON BOAT FOR BEGINNERS?

Everyone is enjoying summer, whether they are on land or in the water. Boating is a popular part of these celebrations. The pontoon boat is one of the most loved boat types. It is often referred to as a party boat because it has a large platform and aluminum tubes that can hold 10 passengers. They can be used for fishing or skiing, however they can also be used for other purposes. Perhaps you’re looking for a way to drive pontoon boat rentals on the lake? You’ve reached the right place.

It is very easy to drive a pontoon boat for beginners who are into North Myrtle Beach watersports. Due to current problems, it will be much easier to drive a pontoonboat on a lake than on a river. It may feel like you’re walking on a parade float, with all the stability and flat surface. The question “Are pontoon boats easy-to-drive?” is not a difficult one to answer. Although the answer to the question “are pontoon boats easy to drive?” could be simply answered “yes”, there are many requirements.

Pontoon Boat Rental Tips

SAFETY

Safety is the first thing you need to know in order to learn how to drive boat rentals for novices or experienced boaters. Make sure you go through the safety checklist. You should have all the required life jackets, signaling equipment and tools as well as a fire extinguisher. You’ve also double-checked the weather forecast, right? These boats, although stable and equipped with railings, are best suited to calm waters.

START LOW

Make sure you are familiar with the controls. Attach the key to the kill switch lanyard and put it in the ignition. Untie all the ropes, then push the button. Keep your foot on the gas pedal and don’t forget to brake. You will need to reverse the engine in order to stop it from moving forward. You should warn your passengers before you go too far. This will allow you to get a better idea of the cushion that will be needed to stop forward progress.

HAVE FUN

Make the most of your pontoon’s features. Many North Myrtle Beach pontoon boat rentals come with a canopy to provide shade or shelter from the occasional rainstorm. Pontoon boat operation can be a complex task. It is best to have a few people help you learn the ropes. You are the captain, so someone else must be on the steering wheel. As you set up your drift for walleye, someone else will find the coolers and bait lines in the large storage area.

Is it necessary to have a permit to drive a pontoon boat? It depends on the boating regulations in your state. Although it is easy to learn how to drive a pontoon boat, it is important to do some research before you go out on any major trips. You’ll feel confident waving at everyone for the right reasons.

WHAT FUN THINGS CAN YOU DO ON A PONTOON BOAT?

Pontoon boat rentals are the best way to have a great day on the water.

North Myrtle Beach pontoon boats are one of the most versatile watercraft available for all water enthusiasts. It is a platform that looks like a large, open space with a canopy, seating, storage, and guardrails. A pontoon boat allows people to mix and mingle just like in a living space. It’s only on water. It moves!

Fun Ideas For Pontoon Boat Rentals

You think pontoon boat rentals can only be used by retired people as a leisure craft? You might be wrong! Pontoon boats are becoming more popular among all ages. Why? Pontoon boats are now more comfortable and convenient. You can use them for many different activities. This makes it easy to keep you entertained on both short and long trips.

These are some tips to make your pontoon boat trip a success.

It should be a party

A pontoon boat can hold about 12 people. Invite your friends to have fun on the pontoon boats next time you are out on the water.

A pontoon boat makes it easy to host a birthday, anniversary, or engagement party. Even the simplest models can store food and other supplies. They also have plenty of seating and enough room for dancing. String lights and other decorations can be attached to vehicles as long as they don’t interfere in any way.

The National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA), Discover Boating, offers helpful tips and advice on how to behave on a pontoon boat.

Swim and snorkel

Pontoon boats can be used to get in and out the water. Even for children, the platform at the back makes it easy and simple to jump into the water. The rails on the sides are handy for holding onto the boat’s outside if needed. Open water swimming safety is important to keep the day safe and enjoyable.

You can see the marine life “eye to eye” if you are in an area that has a lot of it. For some underwater sightseeing, have snorkels and masks available.

Before anyone can swim, snorkel or enter the water, make sure the engine is turned off.

Pontoon boat for games room

There will be times when family members and friends won’t be able to or won’t be able to swim. You can help them keep busy and connected by bringing along board games and other distractions. Avoid games that involve paper money or other pieces that could fall apart.

Instead, offer playing cards, trivia, and social games such as Boggle, Cards Against Humanity, and travel Scrabble to your guests.

Fishing

A pontoon boat’s back platform is the perfect spot for casual and avid fishermen to cast their line and relax. You will find plenty of storage space to store your gear, bait, and ice chests until you are ready to eat.

Before you fish from your pontoon boat, make sure that all swimmers are dry.

Enjoy quiet family time

You can invite many people to your pontoon boat. You don’t need to invite everyone. Sometimes, it can be nice to spend a quiet afternoon or day with your partner or children.

A pontoon boat can be shared with only a few people, giving you the best of both worlds. It’s possible to be together for activities, but still have enough space to take a break or get away from one another.

pontoon-boat-rentals-1-300x200.jpgPontoon boats have many advantages

Are you unsure if a pontoonboat is right for you? These are the benefits:

It is simple to use

It is very easy to learn how to drive a pontoonboat. You can turn the steering wheel clockwise to go to the right, and counterclockwise to go to your left.

Modern pontoon boats can travel at a great speed, but you should always move slowly when you leave the dock or navigate to open water. This is also true for when you are ready to return.

Pontoon boats are capable of moving at a high speed, but they are not designed for acceleration. If you do intend to accelerate, make sure your passengers are aware and can take care of any loose items.

Pontoon boats can be very stable, but they aren’t always agile. Avoid making sharp turns. If you must, ensure that your gear and passengers are safe before turning.

Simple to maintain

Pontoon boats are high above the water. The pontoon boats are positioned high above the water, which reduces the chance of the hull being damaged or dented. If you have to transport the boat on a boat trailer, this is also advisable. When you load the the pontoon boat onto the trailer, it is a good idea to raise the outboard motor. It’s not usually a problem if you forget due to the high clearance.

It is usually faster and cheaper to repair the hull if it does become damaged than a traditional V-shaped boat hull.

Pontoon boats are not as messy to clean after use as other gel-coated boats. After a day of fun, your pontoon boat can be taken out of the water to continue with land-based activities.

Ideal for outings with children, including teens

A pontoon boat’s best feature is its size. Kids can enjoy the boat’s spaciousness with its couches, tables and platform at the back. There are covered and uncovered areas for children to play, while adults supervise them.

This is particularly appreciated by children who invite their friends. Children want to be active and have some privacy from their parents. Everyone must stay seated at least half of the time on smaller boats.

Pontoon boats allow children to be more independent and active. This makes it more enjoyable for the kids and their parents.

Comfort

It is more than just the size of a pontoonboat that makes it comfortable. It is also a floating platform. Pontoon boats with higher ends may have an additional deck, but they generally only have one level.

There is plenty of space to enjoy the views, spread out and be active. Modern pontoon boats have comfort features. Most seats are upholstered. Tabletops allow you to eat and play games in comfort as though you were at home.

Whatever your definition of comfort is, there are plenty of storage options that will allow you to bring along everything you need to make your pontoon boat experience enjoyable.

Safety

Pontoon boats are the most stable multi-person watercraft. Pontoon boats were responsible for only one-tenth of the personal injuries in 2014 than open motorboats.

This watercraft is stable because of its pontoons. Pontoon boats are a safe option for those who love to be on the water.

Storage

It is amazing how well pontoon boats store their cargo. The boat’s open design makes it possible to store equipment, food, and other supplies. Marine craft manufacturers continue to optimize space use and make improvements to meet consumers’ demands.

Keep these things in mind

It’s clear that a pontoon boat is a great way to have fun. A few things are important to keep the adventure safe and enjoyable.

Turning radius

A pontoon boat’s size and shape gives it a large turning radius. It is therefore difficult to turn in tight spaces.

Avoid entering areas that are too shallow or with other vessels, especially speed boats and personal watercraft such as jet skis. Be sure to leave enough room for maneuvering and observe general boating protocol.

Rough water

Pontoon boats, as mentioned earlier, are stable. They can prove dangerous in extremely turbulent water or during severe storms.

The pontoon boat’s design allows it to easily ride over large waves instead of entering them. Because of its structure and size, it is more difficult to navigate in rough waters.

If there is a chance of high winds or storms, it’s best to keep your pontoon boat off the water.

Conclusion

Pontoon boats are versatile, comfortable, and safe, making it very easy to enjoy and have lots of fun on water. A pontoon boat is the perfect choice for you, whether you are looking for an excursion or a floating home to enjoy every weekend.

WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU FALL OFF YOUR JET SKI?

Jet ski rentals are one of the best items on the market when it comes to fun factor. Not only do you have to ride it, but you have to start on your knees, pull yourself up, and balance for fun. It is not a simple pull the throttle and go. Standup jet skis can be used for fitness as well as fun riding.

It is a good workout to go riding for a half hour or so. Stand-ups are simple, yet provide hours of enjoyment. Most of the time you ride you may fall off if you are a standup rider.

When you do fall off when jet skiing, your jet ski may be going faster than you and have glided 50 feet before it finely came to a rest. Fear not, you have your lanyard on and it has stopped, or if you have an older model, then it will start circling around to pick you back up. Truly the chauffeur of its time.

Do jet skis turn around when you fall off? Yes, older standups will circle around if you fall off as they have no way to kill the engine if you fall off. If you have newer North Myrtle Beach jet skis with a lanyard, no, they will simply shut off and you will have to swim to the ski.

Why do Jet Ski rentals turn around and come back?

Jet skis will turn around and come back as the motor is typically still running when you fall off and if they went straight, you would never catch your ski. A jet ski cannot idle without moving, so it turns one direction to circle around and meet you.
There has been times on my stand up jet ski that it does take some time to start to circle, but you always worry and hope that it will, in fact, start to turn. Most of the time you will have to swim to where you believe the jet ski will be, so you will get good at gauging its speed and predicting where it will be on its way to pick you up.

Newer jet skis will have a lanyard so when you fall off your engine when doing water sports will kill. A lanyard can be added to older models as a safety measure if you would like.

Lots of the time if I know I am about to take a fall, I will hit the stop button by instinct, then I don’t have to trust that the ski will circle back around to get me. It does suck if you do happen to pull yourself out and not fall, but your ski is off so you fall because you are stopped.

What Jet Ski’s will turn around?

Most jet skis after 1993 have lanyards. Yamaha had lanyards on their 1991 models whereas my old 1991 Kawasaki 650sx did not have a lanyard. Kawasaki did not have lanyards on their skis from the 70’s through the early 90’s.

I believe most Yamaha stand ups have lanards.

Is it dangerous not to have a lanyard?

No, it is not dangerous to not have a lanyard as long as you don’t ride near boats or docks as the jet ski could keep going 50′-75′ after you fall, however, you may have a better peace of mind if you have a lanyard.

Can I add a lanyard to my ski?

Yes, you can add a lanyard to your ski. It is as easy as replacing the switch. If you have a Kawasaki, then this is a great safety upgrade that comes with the lanyard. Always make sure your lanyard is fully attached to either your wrist or your life jacket. If not, you can risk your jet ski going and going and not turning around.
