TOP 10 ITEMS YOU MUST HAVE FOR YOUR BOATING ADVENTURE

This article will help you plan your next boating adventure, whether you are looking to rent, buy, or lease a boat. Pontoon boat rentals are extremely popular. We want you to be as prepared as possible before you get on the boat to enjoy a day on water.

You don’t want to forget something once you have started your trip. This list can be saved or printed to remind you of important things while you prepare.

Be sure to keep your safety equipment in mind before we start our Must-Have List. These items are not included in our list because we use pontoon boat rentals. All the safety equipment is already included as part of our rental.

Here’s a list of safety equipment you should have when you go boating.

  • Life Jackets
  • Anchor
  • Horns or other sounding devices
  • First Aid Kit
  • Flares
  • Identifications/Licences: Drivers License, Fishing/Crabbing License
  • Communication via VHF/Phone Radio

Once you’ve got all the essentials for a safe and enjoyable boating Myrtle Beach adventure, let’s dive into the Must-Haves to make sure your boat trip is memorable. We have listed the top 10 items in no particular order.

1.) SUNSCREEN

This is essential, even on cloudy days. Sunburn + Vacation = Most boats (all our pontoon rental boats) have at least some shade, but you still have the chance of getting some sun. You can also get more sunburned from the reflection of the water. You can also bring an extra bottle to use a few times on your boating trip.

2.) COLD DRINK

Keep your favorite drink cool and add water. Being out in the sun, sweating or swimming can cause thirst. It can be a frustrating experience to be on a boat at the bottom of the bay, without any beverages. To keep your fluids hydrated, you can put a few water bottles, sodas or other adult beverages in a cooler (below).

3.) COOLER/ICE

Cooler/Ice is a must-have for keeping your water and other adult beverages cool (mentioned previously). If you’re going on a boat, it’s likely to be hot and sunny so it is important to make sure your drinks are kept cold. Let’s face it, who wants warm sodas or hot water? !

4.) TOWELS

Towels can be used to dry off after swimming, or for relaxing on a float. It can be very depressing to stay soaking wet for long periods of time. Having a day to dry off can make a difference in whether your day is good or bad. The sun can also help you dry off if you forget.

5.) CLOTHES

You may need to change your clothes after a day on the water. You might also plan to dock at a bayside eatery. If you’re boating closer towards sunset, when the temperature drops, extra clothing will help you stay warm.

6.) FOOD

Food is key when you get angry, especially if your day is spent on the water. Even if you pack a lunch, we recommend that you bring a packed lunch to have onboard. You can also stop at a local sandbar for lunch. There are many options for eating out while boating.

7.) WATERPROOF BAGS

Water can get onto your boat and cause damage. To keep your valuables (phones, cameras, purses) safe and dry, bring a dry bag.

8.) FLOATS/WATER TOYS

Water toys and floating toys are great for when there is no anchor to drop or you just want to relax and have fun. Insider tip: Make sure to bring a rope or string with you so that you can attach your float to the boat. This will prevent you from floating away.

9.) PLAYLIST

If you aren’t boating while listening to your favorite music then you might not be boating. Music is essential for any boating trip. Enjoy your favourite music and connect to our Bluetooth speakers.

10.) FISHING/CRABBING SUPPLIES

Depending on the location of your boat, you have two options: either you bring your own tackle and bait or rent it. Action Water Sportz has everything you need for a great day of fishing or crabbing.

These are the essential items to have a safe and enjoyable day on the water. Call Action Water Sportz if you’re looking for pontoon boat rentals.

DO YOU NEED TO BE AN EXPERIENCED JET SKI RIDER?

It may surprise you to learn that you don’t need any experience. How much experience is required to jet ski? This is the most frequently asked question we hear.

You might assume that experience is necessary when trying something new like jet skiing. But you might be surprised to find out that it is possible to do this without any experience.

Jet Ski Safety Instructions and Proper Instructions

You may be thinking that operating a jet ski Myrtle Beach without any experience is crazy. But let’s explain. Many of our customers are first- or second-time jetskiers. We treat all customers as though they have never jet skied or driven a boat before.

We do this to ensure everyone receives the right training. No matter what level of experience you have, you will receive a safety briefing and instructions before you can go on the water. No matter your experience level, our highly-trained employees will provide detailed instructions before you can get on the water in your pontoon, kayak or jet ski.

You have control

Remember that you have complete control of your own speed and can take as many or as few steps as you like. Renting at Action Water Sportz is a great option because you can return to our beach location to swap drivers/passengers.

You can “give it a go” so you can give it a chance. If you don’t like it, you can return to the beach and let someone else take it out on the water.

Highly-trained guides

Jet skis have employees who are always with you on the water, so they can help you in an instant. They are there to help you stay safe and answer all your questions. But most importantly, they want you to have a blast on the water.

They will remind customers about jet ski safety rules, but not get in the way. If you have any questions while out on the water, a guide will be happy to help.

We go the extra mile for our customers

Our employees will provide safety instructions and briefs to help you operate your pontoon boat. We will also give you our number so that you can reach us from the water if you have questions.

Many questions and issues can be answered by phone, but we have also driven to the boat to assist users of jet ski rentals in the past. We do our best to ensure you are safe and comfortable on the water. All safety equipment required for rental are included in the price of the boat.

Enjoy your experience and be confident

We are confident that your lack or experience on the water will not hinder your enjoyment.

Jet skis can be very easy once you learn the basics. We are always available to help you! Our goal is to ensure you have fun, safety, and comfort. Call Action Water Sportz now for more information.

RIDING A JET SKI: WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

While we’ve covered the important safety guidelines for when you ride a jet ski, a beginner may be wondering what to wear when jet skiing.

Don’t worry. You can wear a simple jet skiing outfit, such as a bathing suit, swim trunks, or wetsuit. And, of course, you will need a life jacket. Safety and comfort are the most important aspects of jet skiing. First, apply sunscreen and then dress as if you are going to get wet.

You will need to look at the weather report before you decide on what clothes to wear. What is the forecast temperature? Is it expected to rain? Is it going to be sunny? Before you choose your favorite bathing suit, these are important questions to ask.

You may need to rent a jet ski in the rain, depending on your vacation plans. Although it is best to rent a jetski in the absence of precipitation, this may not always be possible due to weather conditions.

Let’s take a look at what you need for your next experience with jetskiing and give some tips on how to dress for cooler weather.

Sunscreen

Although it may sound like something your mom would say, sunscreen is essential! Even if you only plan to jetski for 30 minutes, sunscreen can make all the difference in a memorable vacation. Even on cloudy days, the UV rays can be intensified by the sun reflecting off of the water.

Cool Weather Option: You should still apply sunscreen. This simple step can make all the difference in whether you get sunburnt or not.

Swimwear

It is highly recommended to wear a bathing suit, but it’s best to think twice before you buy something too tight, baggy, or uncomfortable. Anything that restricts your movement while jet skiing is possible is not recommended. Wearing shorts is strongly recommended, as this will prevent rash rub and gripping the seat.

A t-shirt made of lightweight, breathable Lycra, nylon or polyester is the best option, especially as they are easy to dry. Avoid wearing anything that can rub or cause a rash.

Cool Weather Option: A wet suit is a great option if the forecast calls for cooler, more cloudy, or precipitation. It can be stored on your jetski until it is needed. Renting from Action Water Sportz does not require a wetsuit as you will only be jetskiing for 1 hour.

Shoes

If you’re jetskiing, barefoot is your best option. A jet ski rental will require you to board from a floating dock. If the bottom is not sandy, water shoes may be an option. Water shoes are a good option if you jetski where the bottom is not pleasant to walk on.

When it’s cold or bad, you have two options: You can use wet-suit boots or wakeskate shoes. It’s worse to get your feet freezing while you jetski. These options can be used for jetskiing trips that last longer, but they are not required for renting a jetski.

Life Jacket

This is a mandatory item for jet skiing. To keep you safe on water, we provided life jackets in all sizes. We will make sure it fits perfectly. A life jacket too big could cause you to look crammed around your face. A life jacket too small might not keep you buoyant.

Style and comfort are not the most important aspects of life jackets. They are designed to protect you while renting a jetski. Safety first Safety first!

Sunglasses

We recommend sunglasses depending on the location of the sun at the time you get a jet ski rental. You may not need sunglasses if you rent mid-day when the sun is directly overhead. We HIGHLY recommend that you wear sunglasses if you rent at night when the sun is beginning to set.

A strap will be necessary to secure your glasses. We have lost many of them. You can also get a pair of cheap Odyssea Watersports glasses (they float!) At the time you rent.

Option for Cool Weather: Weather doesn’t matter unless it is raining. Rain can cause irritation so eye protection is a must. Although it may still be hard to see, the sunglasses will prevent rain from directly hitting your eyes.

Goggles

Customers prefer to wear goggles on days when the water is more rough. On windy days, water can spray at your face. Goggles, or sunglasses, can be very helpful. You can always keep them in your jetski’s glovebox and use them as needed.

Goggles for Cool Weather: These goggles, similar to sunglasses, are great for rainy days. While they won’t keep you warm, they will keep the rain from getting in your eyes. The goggles will keep water spray out of your eyes, even on rough days.

After Your Ride

A change of clothes, or at the very least a towel, is a good idea after a jet ski ride. You may need to change clothes depending on how far it takes to reach your destination.

Renting from Action Water Sportz will allow you to use their changing area before and after your rental.

Cool Weather Option: It is highly recommended that you change clothes in order to get rid of the wet and cold clothes.

We hope you found this helpful. If you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Action Water Sportz.

JET SKI SAFETY GUIDELINES FOR BEGINNERS

Jet skiing can be a lot of fun, unless someone is hurt. Our goal is to prevent anyone from getting hurt on the water. We offer a training course for all our riders in jet skiing, before they go out on the open seas. You don’t need any experience to rent our jet skis in Myrtle Beach. However, you should be aware of our safety guidelines.

Before you go out on the water with your friends and family, one of our staff will teach you, and all other jet ski operators in your group, safety tips. Below are some guidelines that we will discuss before you embark on your jetski adventure.

Always wear a life jacket. We have a lot of them and make sure all our jet skiers wear one before taking off. It should be snugly fitted and properly strapped. Life jackets that are too large or small will not work as well.

Keep your distance from other jet ski Myrtle Beach and watercraft. Maintaining a safe distance between you and other jet skiers will allow you to stop quickly in an emergency. Avoid wake jumping, splashing and moving too close to other vessels. Sometimes, a minimum distance of 200 feet from any object on the water is enforced as a rule.

Keep alert and be aware of what is happening around you. Continuously look out for swimmers, jet skiers and boats in the vicinity. Tunnel Vision is not something you should be doing! Tunnel Vision is when your eyes only see what is in front of you, and you lose sight of what might be behind you. To avoid any accidents, always look in all directions.

Be aware of your speed. Keep your speed low until you are in open water. You should always operate at a safe speed. In the event of an emergency, you can slow down or stop. You can choose the speed you feel most comfortable with. You can cruise at half speed if that is what you prefer. You can rent jet skis at any speed, but you must drive responsibly.

Never drink and drive. Although it may seem less serious than drinking while you drive a car or boat, alcohol consumption is one of the main causes of accidents in boating and jet skiing. Drinking alcohol can cause impaired judgment when you are behind the wheel of a jet ski or boat. Every state has laws against BUI. Even if you aren’t in an accident, boating under the influence can lead to serious legal consequences.

We are here for you. Our jetski guides are highly skilled and will be with you on the water for the duration of your rental. They will be there to keep you and other customers safe, and answer any questions. They don’t need to be followed around, and you are free to jet ski wherever you like within the riding area.

Do not let safety regulations and rules intimidate you. We’ll again give you a safety course, before you get on your jet ski rental. You’ll have a great time if you adhere to the safety guidelines and apply common sense on water. We are looking forward to having you out on the water with our company. Please don’t hesitate to ask any questions.

SEVEN GREAT TIPS FOR JET SKI BEGINNERS

More and more people are developing an interest in water sports. Among the most popular water sports is jet skiing. Before my first visit to Myrtle Beach, I never thought I would get so hooked to jet skiing. Now my summer holidays cannot be complete before I hop on a jet ski and hit the water.

You too can learn how to jet ski. Although learning to jet ski can be nerve-wracking for beginners.   It is quite easy and fun once you learn to handle and maneuver the jet ski.  My experience with the folks at Action Water Sportz was a wonderful one and I would definitely recommend them to anyone.

Here are some jet skiing tips that I have learned throughout my years of jet skiing:

  1. Safety is the first priority

Before you turn on the jet ski Myrtle Beach, make sure you are in proper jet skiing attire. A life jacket is particularly important. An accident can happen even when you ride with a lot of care. A life jacket will keep you safe during the ride.

Another safety feature in jet skis is the engine shut-off clip. It’s supposed to be attached to your waist any time you are riding a jet ski. It turns off the engine in the event of you losing your balance and falling into the water.

  1. Making your first move

As you prepare to take off for the first time, make sure you are holding the handles of the jet ski firmly enough. Keep your speed low as you start engaging the throttle. A safe speed would be 10 mph or less. Avoid going too far away from the shore.

  1. Gaining speed

Once you are fully familiar with the machine and can maneuver it comfortably, it is time to get further into the waters. Accelerate slowly as you move further out. As the speed increases, the nose of the jet ski will lift slightly from the water. This is normal and should not make you panic.

  1. Making turns

It is normal for beginners to have some difficulty turning their jet ski rental at first. This should not discourage you at all. You will get comfortable as you continue learning and practicing at low speeds. Remember to practice your turns close to the shore to avoid potential mishaps with other boats.

  1. Preparing for impact

As I mentioned earlier, it is normal for the jet ski to lift off the water as you gain speed. When this happens, just lift your body a little bit above your seat to minimize the impact as the machine hits the water surface again. This is one of those things that you will enjoy once you fully learn how to jet ski.

  1. Overtaking

When overtaking, stay as far away as possible from the vessel you are trying to overtake. This helps keep the person controlling the other vessel aware of your presence. It also keeps the boat from blocking you or even veering off.

  1. Stay on familiar territory

Although there may be a temptation to veer too deep into the water, it is important for you, as a beginner, avoid straying into unchartered waters. This will keep you from colliding with other vessels as you continue to learn more about jet skis and jet skiing.

At Action Water Sportz we always send an experienced guide out with every group. Be sure and let the guide know if this is your first time on a jet ski and they will be sure to show you the ropes.
